What is Gakic?

The full name of Gakic is glycine-l-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid - yeah, that's a mouthful ain't it? =) It is a supplement that's designed to help the end user pump out more reps, delay muscle fatigue, and help achieve more intense workouts.

Sounds good, doesn't it? Just imagine being able to push beyond your normal reps, intensifying your workouts, and going beyond that plateau you've been stuck on... Sounds too good to be true? Perhaps not. Let's find out why.

Muscletech Gakic Ingredients

First, some basic information on what's inside the Gakic supplement.

Serving Size (scoop) 1

Sugars (g) 14
*Gakic (g) 10.2

Ingredient Details:
*Gakic: glycine-l-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid calcium
OTHER INGREDIENTS: Dextrose, maltodextrin, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium gluconate, polyvinylprrolidone, natural and artificial flavors (modified food starch, corn syrup solids, gum acacia, silicon dioxide), acesulfame-potassium, sucralose, fd&c red no. 40.

The key ingredient, and the only ingredient we are interested in here, is Gakic - glycine-l-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid. Read on below to find out what's so special about Gakic.

Muscle Tech Gakic Research & Study

There have been various research studies conducted on Gakic (glycine-l-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid), and fortunately, using human subjects! That's a nice change from all the products claiming all types of benefits found through clinical trials using.... drumroll... rats!

Below, I will briefly explain two studies conducted on Gakic using human subjects, and the results achieved.

Gakic Study 1 - Buford, Britni N.; Koch, Alexander J.

This study was done to determine Glycine-Arginine-[alpha]-Ketoisocaproic Acid (Gakic) effects on improving performance of repeated cycling sprints. 10 men completed a randomized, double-blind exercise protocol of 2 sessions. Subjects consumed either 11.2g of Gakic, or placebo 45 minutes prior to exercise. Plasma lactate was analyzed in blood collected 45 minutes before exercising, and then 5 minutes after exercise. Mean power, peak power, and fatigue values were determined from 5 supramaximal, 10s cycle ergometer sprints, each separated by 1 minute rest intervals.

The study found a significant change in mean power output over the 5 sprints between the Gakic and control groups. They found that the Gakic group had a greater retention of mean power compared to the control group, leading to the conclusion that Gakic helped reduce the decline in mean power during repeated bouts of supramaximal exercise.

Gakic Study 2 - Stevens BR, Godfrey MD, Kaminski TW, Braith RW.

In another study done at the College of Medicine in University of Florida, researchers determined the effects of Gakic on human muscle dynamic performance (strength, work, and fatigue), measured under conditions of acute, exhaustive high intensity exercises.

The study involved 13 subjects, and measured pre-fatigue and post-fatigue peak torque and work values in the quadriceps using a computer controlled iso kinetic dynamometer. The randomized, double blind study used a Gakic treatment, and a placebo. Measurements were taken before and during an exhaustive anaerobic fatigue protocol to calculate a Fatigue Resistance Index (FRI), and also the total work.

They found the Fatigue Resistance Index (FRI) and total work for each of the exhaustion sets measured at 0, 5 and 15 minutes after oral Gakic treatment were greater than values obtained from the control group. The key findings were:

  • The Gakic treatment group increase the mean FRI value by up to 28% over the control group.
  • Overall gain in total muscle work of the Gakic group was 10.5% greater than the control group, sustained for at least 15 minutes.
  • After 24hours, both Gakic and control groups' concentric forces returned to same absolute values.

These findings lead to the conclusion that oral Gakic treatment increased muscle torque and work sustained during intense acute anaerobic dynamic exercise, and it also increased overall muscle performance by delaying muscle fatigue.

What can Gakic Weight Lifting Supplement do for the Average Joe?

Looking at the two studies outlined above, what does this mean for the average user? The research done certainly are very promising, and you can expect Gakic to help you increase workload output, and reduce the decline in power output during workouts, thus prolonging your ability to train and push beyond your normal limits.

What's even more appealing, is that these studies were conducted using human subjects. I would like to highlight a few key points:

  • They trials were done using human subjects (I know I mentioned this many times, but this is important)
  • The amount of Gakic supplemented in the study was 11.2 grams taken 45 minutes pre workout. This closely mimics the recommended dose and use of Gakic by Muscletech, which is 10.2 grams of Gakic taken 45 minutes pre workout.

What's the significance you ask? Considering that human subjects were used, and that the test parameters closely resemble real life conditions, you can expect that the results achieved during the trials can be very closely matched to real life performance expectations.

Gakic Side Effects, Buy Gakic Caps & Powder

Neither of the studies performed on Gakic mentioned any side effects of using Gakic, and I was unable to find any documented side effects. If you've used Gakic, you can share your experience with it on our user reviews section here.

You can buy Gakic in two forms, either in a caps or in a powder form. There's really no difference between the two, it just really depends on your personal preference - whether you prefer pills, or prefer powder. Both cost the same, and contain the same amount of servings.
